Our graduates are respected and recognized by their peers. Several of our graduates have distinguished themselves as outstanding first-year teachers in the local public system. Other graduates, teaching in both public and private systems, have been recognized and awarded as outstanding teachers and have gone on to become principals and school district administrators.
What Can CUC's School of Education Offer You?
- You can focus on the age group that you would like to teach. CUC offers a four-year, provincially accredited BEd degree with either an Elementary or Secondary Track focus.
- Citizens and permanent residents of Canada are eligible to apply for an Interim Professional Teaching Certificate in Alberta. The degree is also recognized outside of Canada. Foreign graduates should check with authorities where they wish to teach and obtain details on how to receive local certification.
- The Secondary Track candidates complete course work for two teachable areas–a specialization and a BEd minor area of focus–thus enhancing their employability upon graduation. Elementary Track candidates can build on the elective credits in their program and add a minor if they choose.
- A variety of professional experiences are available both on campus and in the K-12 schools. For example: Guest speakers are invited to present in professional education classes; practicum students are invited by the local school district to participate in specific mentoring workshops designed for new teachers in the district; integrated field experiences allow early exposure to classroom observation and teaching to explore the role of the teacher.
- Two different student teaching practica. The first practicum allows candidates to apply their skills at the mid-point in their program. The second practicum is a culminating experience at the end of their program.
