Entrance Requirements

 

 

 

General Admission

 

For general admission criteria to all Bachelor's programs of the University College, students must have an Alberta High School Diploma or equivalent with passing grades of 60% or higher in the diploma exams. 

 

Specific Alberta High School prerequisites or equivalents for admission to the 4-year Bachelor of Music in Performance (BMus) program and 3 and 4-year Bachelor of Arts in Music (BA) programs and  are English 30, and three other 30-level courses.

 

Specific Alberta High School or equivalent prerequisites for admission to the Bachelor of Education (BEd)/Secondary with Music Specialization program are English 30, Pure or Applied Math 30, and two other 30-level courses. This program is offered through the School of Education in collaboration with the Department of Music. Please contact the School of Education for further details.

 

 

 

 

Placement Tests

 

All students entering any program in music (as major, concentration, specialization, or minor) must take the following placement exams offered yearly during Fall Semester registration:


  • Music Theory Placement Exam
  • Musicianship Skills Placement Exam

 

 

 

 

Audition Requirements

 

For BMus in Performance program:

 

  • Keyboard/Instrumental applicants: Perform two contrasting selections (one or more movements each). Minimum performance level  Grade 9 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or equivalent. 
  • Vocal applicants: Perform two contrasting selections, at least one selection in a second language. Minimum performance level Grade 7 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or equivalent.

 

 

For BA in Music and BEd/Secondary Music Specialization programs:

 

  • Keyboard/Instrumental applicants: Perform two contrasting selections (one or more movements each). Minimum performance level  Grade 8 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or equivalent. 
  • Vocal applicants: Perform two contrasting selections, at least one selection in a second language. Minimum performance level Grade 6 Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or equivalent. 

 

 

For Minor in Music and Minor in Music Education program:

 

  • Keyboard/Instrumental applicants: Perform two contrasting selections (one or more movements each). Minimum performance level Grade 4 RCM or equivalent.
  • Vocal applicants: Perform two contrasting selections. Minimum performance level Grade 2 RCM or equivalent.
