Residence FAQ's
What's in the Lakeview Residence?
- There are 112 rooms where men and women live on opposite wings of the dorm.
- A central lobby for students to study and socialize with individuals of the opposite gender.
- One girl's and one guy's mezzanine overlook the central lobby. Each is equipped with computer stations and same gender lounge areas.
- The Oasis, a chapel area, is located downstairs and is equipped with a piano, drums, guitars and microphones. Evening worships take place here during the week days.
- A dorm kitchenette equipped with pots, cooking utensils, refrigerator and stove is available to students. The preparation of meat any meat product is not allowed in the kitchenette facility and students are expected to clean up after each use.
- The Chatterbox is a room co-gender room for socializing and watching TV. A minimum group of three people may rent the room. Students are asked to leave their student ID cards as collateral at the front desk and are expected to clean up after each use.
- A Laundry room is available at 6:00am to 11:00pm everyday except Saturdays. A laundry fee is incorporated into dorm students budgets so quarters are not needed. Students do have to provide their own soap, bleach, fabric softener, etc.
- Each dorm room is equipped with 1 phone, 2 beds, 2 shelving units, 2 closets, 2 dressers, 3 desks, 3 mirrors, and a bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. Rooms are meant for double occupancy.
- Students who would like a single room must fill out a request form at the Deans office and are responsible for all the accompanying fees. (Single rooms may be granted at the Deans discretion upon availability.)
What measurements do I need to know?
- Closet space - 4 ft wide x 2-½ ft deep
- Bookshelf - 3 ft wide, 4 shelves
- Desk space - 6ft long, 3 dresser drawers, 1 desk drawer
- Phone desk - 5 ft (shared) , 3 small desk drawers
What will I need to bring with me?
You will need to bring bedding, toiletries, and room decor.
Are there things I can't bring?
Firearms, martial arts equipment, fireworks, pets, hotplates, candles, incense, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, pornographic material including inappropriate posters and pictures.
What electronics can I bring?
A refrigerator, microwave, computer system, radio, TV and DVD or video player (it is recommended that freshmen leave their TV at home for the first year).
How do I protect my things?
Lock your room.
How do I reserve a room?
Contact a Dean Straub or Dean Blabey to make a room reservation: (403) 782-3381. A $250 room reservation fee will be required which will transfer into a room deposit when you take occupancy.
When can I move in?
Fall term students can start moving in the last week of August. Winter term students can move in the weekend before classes resume.
What if I've decided not to come?
Contact Dean Straub or Dean Blabey and the Registry immediately and notify them of your change in plans.
Living out of the dorm
Refer to ‘page 145’ of the Student Handbook for the regular policy on out of dorm living. In addition to this policy please note the following: Students may live out of the dorm at any age, subject to the following academic criteria:
- Having completed one full year (two semesters) in CUC college residence
- Having a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher
- Having demonstrated model citizenship during the academic year, while living in the dorm
- Having a maintained GPA of 3.5 or higher to continue out-of-dorm living
- Receiving a letter of permission from parents/ guardians
- Receiving final approval from Student Administration to live out-of-residence
