Research Highlights - Psychology Department

Faculty in the Psychology department are actively engaged in several research projects. Some of which are noted below. RSF funding provides support for these initiatives at Burman University.

  • Lifestyle Medicine and Flourishing research with Paradise Health (Lifestyle Immersion Program).  
  • Flourishing research with students in the classroom.  There are 3 collection points: a. spirituality b. cultural c. peak experiences.
  • Flourishing research with a Senior Living Community.  
  • Development of a protocol to study "Interpresence" -- the presentation of a protocol to study what happens in the interpersonal encounter between people.  This research is in collaboration with a Swedish researcher.
  • Development and validation of a shortened version of the "Moments of Flourishing Experiences Scale" In development.  
  • One of the pillars of Lifestyle Medicine is "Social Connections."  Exploration of how social relationships are connected to longevity.  In the midst of an extensive and multidisciplinary literature review
  • Development of a spiritual abuse scale.  This involved a systematic review of the literature and the development of key themes.  
  • One of the pillars of Lifestyle Medicine is "Social Connections."  Exploration of how social relationships are connected to longevity
  • Research application to the Alberta Grants for research on PTSI (post-traumatic stress injuries).
